LIFETIME WARRANTY
MFA THESIS EXHIBITION
COLUMBIA COLLEGE CHICAGO MAY 6 - 20, 2022
In its final iteration, Lifetime warranty narrates my physical and emotional experience through the form of alter-egos with a focus on collage and installation. My characters with their exaggerated features and sometimes vacant faces are vulnerable, emotional, and incredibly direct. They cry, embrace one another, yet also reject, are nostalgic and wistful, but carrying an edge, like a threatening secret. They are glimpses of time coming together, equally a self-portrait and a place of refuge and rest for others. The framed collages are arranged on the wall imitating films. There are frames that I consider main characters, but to tell the full story, b-roll needs to be sprinkled in to create depth and dimension. These particular frames are some of my favorites as they serve as an exploration of different concepts from being autobiographical in nature to escapist. Although the assemblages were composed in attempt to express sentiments that would otherwise remain trapped in my mind, I hope that viewers are able to attach themselves in new ways, showing them elements and stories from their own lives.
